Your brake pads are a main element of your braking system and they are a part that you your should never disregard. Brake pads compress against your brake rotors to create friction and this friction makes your car stop. So your brake pads are working really hard, really often.
The force they need to apply to halt a moving vehicle is extreme and produces a lot of heat which erodes the brake pads.
Worn brake pads means ineffective braking and that can mean danger on the road. And so regular examination and testing of the condition of your brake pads is important.

How do I know when my brake pads need to be replaced?
Brakes that squeal can be an indicator that your brake pads are worn down; many pads have a small metal piece implanted in them which scrapes on the disc when your brake pads are degraded, causing that high pitch noise. However, you should never wait until you hear noises to get your pads looked at, we recommend having your brakes inspected at every service.
It is important to remember that unusual brake sounds are not always caused by normal wear and any unusual noises anywhere in your car should always be investigated by a qualified professional mechanic.
At Clem Camage Motors we offer a free 65 Point Vehicle Inspection Report with every car service. As part of our inspection we check the brake pads for wear and tell you if they require replacing. We can also advise the right pad for your driving conditions.
How regularly should my brake pads be replaced?
Brake Pads can live for anywhere between 15,000 to 70,000 km's. This can change because of a number of factors such as; driving conditions and style, regular heavy loads. If your brake pads are wearing out ahead of time your mechanic might advise using a heavier duty or heat resistant brake pad more suited to your vehicle.
